THANK YOU AND FAIR WINDS

The South American Optimist Championship drew to a close yesterday, after a pleasant week of races during which sailors faced varied sailing conditions. The battle for the first place went on till the last day, as no sailor had secured the title beforehand.

We were pleased to see that "Fair Play" reigned during the whole event, that sailors made new friends and gained in sailing skills. Peru went back home with two titles: South American Champion in the fleet races (in the 'closed' event -for sailors from South America-) and South American Team Race Champions. The USA won the open championship (for sailors from all over the world) and the Nations Cup (team racing event for sailors from outside of South America). Netherlands Antilles took gold in the girls fleet and Argentina took silver and bronze in the individual closed event and gold in the girls fleet of the closed event. We also took silver in the South American Team Race Championship.

All in all, the championship was a sailing festival that forecasts a promising future for our sport. It was a real honour for the Club Nautico San Isidro to welcome the delegations from abroad. Thank you all. We owe the IODA our gratitude for their confidence in our ability to run the event, and we congratulate all the teams that participated in the event.

Fair winds to all of you,

Luis Velasco
Chairman

NORTH SAILS SPONSOR THE SOUTH AMERICANS!!

It is a pleasure for us to announce that North Sails South America have agreed to become a major sponsor of the event. For nearly 30 years North Sails South America have accompanied the sailors of our country, working closely to the dinghy classes as well as to the cruising boats. The development of winning and lasting sails for the Optimist Class has been one of the goals of all times and mostly of the last few years, when North Sails designers have developed new and varied cuts, focused on the weight of the skippers. the South American Championship is a great opportunity for this first level sail making company to ratify their endorsement to the young sailors of the region and the world.
